SUZUKI WORLD MX2 STRONG AT ADAC MX MASTERS
Team Suzuki Press Office – May 2.
Hunter Lawrence – 2nd
Zach Pichon – 3rd
Jet Lawrence - 5th
Liam Everts - 22nd
Suzuki World MX2 rider Hunter Lawrence raced to second overall aboard his Suzuki RM-Z250 at the ADAC Masters second round in Germany at the weekend as team-mate Zach Pichon finished third on the day and retained his runner-up spot in the Youngster Cup series.
The second round of the ADAC MX Masters series was held in Saxony and the traditional grass circuit in Jauer welcomed the three categories - MX Masters, MX Youngster Cup and MX Junior Cup - and Team Suzuki World MX2 was spearheaded by MX2 Grand Prix talent Hunter Lawrence.
The Australian teenager relied on his familiar Suzuki RM-Z250, putting him at a certain power disadvantage against the bigger-sized 450cc machines in the class, but the 17-year-old managed to score fourth place in his qualifying group on Saturday; and then improved on race day.
“My starts weren’t the best in both motos, but what can you do against the 450s?” he shrugged. “The races were great though. I had a good speed and moved up to second place on both occasions. The starts really held me back, but finishing runner-up twice is an achievement, I guess.”
Next best Suzuki rider in the Masters class was Mike Stender (Team Castrol Power 1 Suzuki Moto-Base). The German finished 12th overall. Not much further down the ranks in 15th position was Bas Vaessen: Lawrence’s companion at Team Suzuki World MX2 returned to action after his collarbone injury and the Dutch rider earned ninth place in moto one. He was then involved in a collision and had to cut his day short with a damaged front brake.
Zach Pichon, meanwhile, repeated his podium performance from three weeks ago. The French rider, who is also a part of Team Suzuki World MX2, took third place overall in the ADAC MX Youngster division. Pichon collected valuable championship points after finishing 5-3. He now lies just one point shy of the championship leader: “I suffered a bit from arm-pump in the first moto, but overall, it was a promising day,” the son of former World Champion Mickael Pichon commented.
Paul Bloy ended the two races of the ADAC MX Junior Cup just outside the top-10. Riding for the German Team Motorrad Waldmann, Bloy was classified 13th and 11th. Jett Lawrence (Team Suzuki World MX2) could display his outstanding potential only in the second moto, as he crossed the line in fifth position. Earlier, Lawrence had to retire due to a problem with a broken cable.
The Junior Cup also saw the debut of Liam Everts, son of Motocross icon Stefan Everts. Liam enjoyed a strong qualifying (seventh in his group), but fell victim to start turmoil twice. The youngest representative of the Everts dynasty had to fight back from these incidents to score a 25th and 22nd place, respectively.
Round three of the ADAC MX Masters series takes place on May 14th in Mölln.
