URAMOTO TOP 10 AT NAVARRA SPANISH SBK
Team Suzuki Press Office – August 30
Naomichi Uramoto: GSX-R1000 – 7-6
Fresh from his World Superbike debut the previous weekend, Naomichi Uramoto was back in action at the same Navarra Circuit in Spain for the fifth round of the Spanish Superbike Championship (ESBK).
The JEG Racing GSX-R1000 rider had a mixed weekend but still holds sixth in the series on 103 points and feeling strong for the remainder of the series.
The Japanese rider started untimed practices attempting to improve his settings, based on his experience and data he acquired from the previous weekend. In his past outings at Navarra, Uramoto was only able to lap in 1'40s and 1'41s on his first day, but this weekend was different, with him starting the day in the 1'39s.
However, Uramoto ran into something he did not expect as Friday's timed practice sessions started. He lapped at 1'39.906 in FP1, 1'39.441 in FP2, and was able to keep pace in the 1'39s but finished FP1 seventh fastest and sixth fastest in FP2, as the top seven riders were separated by only 0.3 seconds.
In Saturday’s qualifying, Uramoto scored a 1'39.455 and qualified seventh for Race 1.
It was a similar situation for both Race 1 and Race 2: Uramoto set similar lap times with the top group but was not fast enough to pass them. He would shorten the gap in Sector 1 and 2 but would lose the advantage he gained in Sector 3. Uramoto finished seventh in Race 1 and sixth in Race 2.
Naomichi Uramoto:
"There were things we found out at the World Superbike, so we started to mature the settings from there, but I couldn't do anything to bring me to the front during both races. My pace was good, and I have achieved all the targets I set before the race weekend, so that was a good thing, but obviously the result wasn't where I wanted to be. I am going to do my best at the next round in Valencia, so that I can go home satisfied."
