SUZUKI RM-Z450 DOMINATES ADAC SX1 CHAMPIONSHIP
Team Suzuki Press Office – December 5.
Cole Martinez – 1st in SX1 Championship
Charles Lefrancois – 2nd in SX1 Championship
Suzuki riders raced to the podium of SX1 and SX3 on both days at the second round of the ADAC Supercross Cup at Chemnitz in Germany at the weekend with Cole Martinez and Charles Lefrancois coming away with 1-2 in the SX1 series lead with one round remaining.
Frenchman Lefrancois (Team Twenty Suspension) pulled a good start on Friday and was second, but halfway through the finals he couldn’t hold-off American Martinez (Team Castrol Power 1 Suzuki Moto-Base). Martinez and Lefrancois stood on the podium together, finishing second and third.
On Saturday evening, five of the 12 riders who reached to final, were RM-Z450-mounted. Martinez had a lot of bad luck right at the start so had to fight from the back. Close to the finish, he was able to overtake his team mate Justin Starling (Team Castrol Power 1 Suzuki Moto-Base) but just missed the podium, finishing fourth. Lefrancois had a better evening; having a great but spectacular start and finished second again.
In the SX2 class, the best RM-Z250 rider on both evenings was Portugal’s Diogo Graca (Team Castrol Power 1 Suzuki Moto-Base). After a tough first part of the race, he fought back to seventh, giving him fifth position on Saturday.
An impressive series of four podiums out of four races went to the youngest Suzuki Supercross rider. In the smallest permanent class of the ADAC SX Cup, Maximilian Werner (Team Waldmann), took second place twice at the opening event in Stuttgart, and finished second in the Chemnitz first race. On Saturday, he showed a great effort and finished third.
Martinez and Lefrancois lead the SX1 class championship after two of three events and have great chances to take the overall series victory for Suzuki.
The championship will be decided at the finale of the ADAC Supercross Cup in Dortmund, Germany on January 11-13th 2019.
