SUZUKI ENDURANCE TEAM 4TH ON OSCHERSLEBEN EWC GRID
Team Suzuki Press Office – May 19.
Suzuki Endurance Racing Team - 4th
Defending Endurance World Champions, Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, will start tomorrow’s third round of the series at Oschersleben from fourth position aboard their GSX-R1000 following today’s qualifying at the German circuit.
The 15-times World Champions spent yesterday’s initial practice sessions setting the time and today further-revising settings aboard their machine ready for tomorrow’s eight-hour race; that riders Vincent Philippe, Etienne Masson and Alex Cudlin head into with a three-point lead with three rounds remaining.
Team Manager for the event - Dominique Hébrard - and all the team decided to take benefit from the good weather conditions yesterday, even if they were going to pay for it today, with worn tyres, to use during the second and final qualification sessions. He said: “It rained last night and this morning, so the track was still wet and it comforted us in our choices yesterday. It was also a good occasion to test the bike on a track that was still drying, but finally the heat increased the bike’s speed and it was not possible anymore to run for a great lap-time because we all worked to obtain the best results during the race.”
Philippe was the fastest on the SERT GSXR-1000 with a best lap of 1:27.639, and reached second place in his session. Behind him, Masson was fourth in his session, with a good chrono of 1:28.095, as Cudlin, unfortunately fell during his time-attack. However, the Australian rider was uninjured but still posted a 1:29.427.
Tomorrow’s 20th edition of the 8 Hours of Oschersleben begins at 14:00hrs local time.
